back next 22nd Annual Hawaii Wood Guild Show The Hawai‘i Wood Guild’s 22nd Annual Show was held at Harbor Gallery in Kawaihae from February 2nd to March 1st. The show featured works by talented Big Island wood workers with a wide selection of entries ranging from furniture to sculpture, functional to whimsical. This year’s show was juried by Frank McClure, an award-winning Big Island wood artist, Wick Rice of Wick Rice Cabinets, and Linda Armstrong-Henson of Third Dimension Gallery. Following a thorough critiquing process the three selected the award winners. Awards were presented to the following: “Best of Show” to Jeffery Dale for his “Dining Side Chair” 1st Place in Joinery to Tai Lake for his “Crescent Entry Table” 1st Place in Sculpture to Perry Policicchio for his “Hemingway Fedora” 1st Place in Turning to Cliff Johns for his “Cook Pine Platter” 1st Place in the Open category to Ray Strauss for his “Fantasea Screen” Honorable Mention to Rick Kelleher for his “Deco Dish” Honorable Mention to J. Kelly Dunn for his “Emerging Vision” sculpture Honorable Mention to John Mydock for his bowl, “It’s a Honu World” Honorable Mention to Jarred Yates for “Cosmopolitan” Entry Table Student Award to Rachel Dunn for her set of colored desk pens The artists who entered also had their chance to vote for their favorite piece and the owners of Harbor Gallery, Gunner and Elli Mench, presented an award for their favorite entry. The “Artists Choice Award” went to Tim and Tiffany Shafto for their Blossoming Gem Jewelry Box and the “Host Gallery Award” went to Rick Kelleher for his Koa Wall Cabinet. The Hawai‘i Wood Guild would like to give a special “Mahalo” to Gunner and Eli Mench for their efforts in making the show a success. The Guild is working to make next years show even better.
